Into the Black - Part 6 - Out of The Frying Pan

Fan fiction Friday. Escape here if this is not your thing!

Into the Black - Part 6 - Out of The Frying Pan

The two men lay flat on the cramped catwalk high above the hanger floor. A huge Badger class industrial was docked below them with its cargo bay doors closed. One of the men held a viewscanner to his eyes looking down into the gloom. The scanner amplified the available light and fed back scan results of anything in its field of vision. All he could see currently was the cargo ship and and the open entrance door to the outer corridor. The other man was aiming down the sights of a Ishukone issue sniper-rifle. He was focused on the door ready to put a bullet into the brain of the target.

"Is it time?"

"5 minutes."

The two men continued to watch in silence. After a few minutes they saw a shadow appear at the hanger door.

"That her?" the sniper asked.

"Damn, its gone. Whoever it was, they only looked in for a second. I wasn't looking that way I was checking the perimeter."

"Well watch the damn door asshat!"

The two men were from a separate criminal organisation to the one Captain Dorn had visited earlier in the day. The station was big enough for the two organisations to operate freely and over the years each organisation had split the various criminal activities between themselves. One took the protection racket  one took the cat houses, one took the arms sales, the other took control of the narcotics trade. They even worked together on some occasion especially when a third organisation tried to move in on their territory.

The two men were positioned to take out someone who appeared to be trying to gain information on their latest gun running scheme. The cargo ship contained a small arsenal of illegal plasma weapons which had not been off-loaded yet. A tip from the other organisation had alerted them to the fact an agent of the security services was trying to get evidence on their smuggling operation  Therefore they had delayed unloading the goods and were laying in wait. The tip said the agent would come snooping at around 21:00 station time hoping to catch them in the act of unloading. Little did they know that Lola had in fact told the Caldari assassin that the fugitives that she was hunting where going to be hidden on that very cargo ship which was ready to leave at that time.

"No sign. Must have been someone else. I hope the bitch turns up soon, there is a Mind-Clash game on tonight I gotta to see. I got 200 credits riding on it."

The two men concentrated on the view of the door. There was hardly a sound as the agent dropped down from a ventilation duct directly above them. She landed with a knee on each man, concurrently driving a knife into the back of their necks. The only sound was the muffled thud as she landed on top of them followed by the slow, rhythmic dripping of their blood onto the cargo bay floor below.

The massive stargate loomed in front of the small frigate sized ship.

The computer's voice flooded through the small bridge. "Warning! You are approaching a stargate that leads to low-security space. CONCORD, the security services and the police have no presence in these areas. Space beyond this gate should be considered extremely dangerous and unsafe. You are recommended not to continue. Pirate capsuleer gate camps are regularly reported in this area."

The captain at the controls sighed.

"I wish I was an egger. Apparently they get a simpler message when they jump into low-sec."

The Captain appeared to be looking out of the viewports, craning his neck from side to side taking in all the space around the ship.

"Ah! Perfect! Wait for it, wait for it..... and here goes everything...."

There was a brilliant flash of light and the Manticore vanished into an artificial wormhole. Gate travel was particularly stressful to the human bodies systems. Therefore most ships had an alarm to allow crew and passengers to brace before a jump. However, for some reason the alarm system had been deactivated on this ship. For Captain Dorn it was nothing, a seasoned veteran of gate travel, his body had become accustom to the unpleasant effects of travelling through an artificial wormhole. Kara almost threw up at the unexpected jump. There was only darkness in the ship with the feint twinkle of the stars out of the viewports. Stargate jumps disabled all the ships systems which was why the stargates provided a short duration cloaking field. As soon as the systems came back on the captain swore.

"Damn pirates are camping the gate out there. We've got a lovely selection of strategic cruisers waiting to catch us when the jump-cloak fails in 25 seconds. Oh and look, they've got some heavy assault cruisers to back them up."

"Is that it?" Kara asked with fear in her voice "Nothing we can do?"

The captain smiled.

"Why do you think I waited a few seconds the other side and why do you think there is no jump alarm on this ship."

Suddenly a massive battleship decloaked 15km from them. The hulking Raven started aligning to try and get away from the pirates. The captain of the Manticore waited a few more seconds before he started aligning his own ship and activated the covert-ops cloaking device. As the small frigate moved, the cloak provided by the stargate dropped and they appeared to everyone in the area. They could see the six hi-tech cruisers already engaging the battleship. The Manticore was visible for a fraction of a second before its own covert-ops cloaking device engaged. The captain turned and smiled.

"First rule of Tama. Always jump in 5 seconds after something the pirates would consider a juicy target. If they are there, they'll be too busy attacking the other ship to be interested in you!" the captain said with a grin. "A quick align and activate the cloak and they are too busy ganking some poor SOB to even notice you. That's why the jump alarm is turned off, I have to time it exactly right. No waiting for stupid safety systems. OK lets go. Next stop Kedama!"

Kara had her face pressed against the viewport. Whilst it was far in the distance, she could see the Raven battleship under attack. Lasers and missile's lit up the space around the stargate.

The Manticore slipped into warp leaving behind the now helpless Raven alone with the pirates.

-o0o-

The agent left the ship and paused. There was no sign the ship was leaving any time soon and the holds were full of what appeared to be illegal arms. This didn't look like a ship that the two fugitives would be leaving in within the next hour. She considered the fact that Lola may have lied to her. A steep price to pay for a person she claimed to want dead anyway.

She pulled out a datapad and checked the stations security network. She needed to see if any of her previous encounters had been reported. It was then she saw the report that Lola had been found dead. The initial report stated suicide but the agent knew the autopsy would reveal the damage she'd inflicted on the crime-boss. The security forces on the station would know the rumours about Lola, realise that she'd been attacked and the suicide will be investigated as a murder. She now had two dead-ends and a security force that would soon be asking questions. She checked the stations database and pulled up the cargo ships ownership records. The ship was registered to someone who lived on the station. The trail was suddenly getting cool and she needed a new lead.

It was only a 10 minute walk to the mans quarters. The listing on the database showed he shared it with his wife. That was both good and bad news. Bad news in that there were two targets and that meant there was always the chance one could hit a panic button or make a lucky escape. The good news was that she found even the most hardened criminals that could withstand her encouragements to talk, soon folded when she started on their partner.

A short bald man answered the door. He gave the agent a approving look and a wide smile.

"Well hello. And what can I do for the most beautiful woman on this dump of a station?"

"Lola sent me, I have a proposition for you. Can we speak inside? Is your wife here?"

"No" he smiled "She's out and I'm allllllll alone."

The man moved out of the way and the agent entered his quarters. As he closed the door she span round and grabbed him by his throat lifting him several inches off the floor and slammed him into the closed door. He grabbed her wrist trying to free himself. He couldn't move her slender wrist from around his throat which made no sense  the woman in front of him looked small and weak. How was she able to lift him like this with no effort? His eyes widened in terror as with her other hand she produced a wicked combat knife which she waved slowly in front of his face. She said nothing as she lowered the knife out of his field of vision. He made a whimpering sound as she pressed the flat of the blade against his crotch.

"I need to know EVERYTHING you know about two fugitives that are trying to get off this station. You can tell me now and still be able to father children in the future. Otherwise you can play dumb and I can start cutting now. So are you going to help the State track down these two wanted traitors or are we going to do this the messy way and reduce the State's birth-rate?"

The man nodded his head vigorously.

-o0o-

The stealth-bomber dropped out of warp 300km from the station. The captain zoomed the camera in on the station undock.

"How's it looking?" asked Dorn.

"Not bad currently, it appears fairly quiet. This is a very dangerous station to approach. You have a real concentration of pod jockeys in there and the vast majority see neutrals as possible Caldari militia spies. Unless you are in the Gallente Militia or an affiliated corporation, you could well be attacked by these guys. And they don't take prisoners. That's why IO have this pounce spot. Can see if the coast is clear but still far enough away to engage the warp drive."

"And these are the guys we're going to ask for help?" Kara asked worriedly.

"We're Caldari defectors being pursued by agents of the State. We'll find help here" Dorn replied "Can you get us in then Captain?"

"Just wait for that Cynabal to finish undocking and leave. Frack look at that guys egger record. Loren Gallen, member of Shadows of the Federation! If he wasn't a capsuleer he'd be the clusters biggest mass-murderer! But given him a spaceship and he's a hero of the Federation! Figure that out hur! Once he's clear and has warped off I'll warp us to zero and hope docking control pull us in before anymore undock."

-o0o-

The faces on the 10 viewscreens were obscured, their voices distorted.

"We are concerned Admiral. The Gallente continue to reclaim the areas of low-sec and the weapon we hoped would turn the war around is now destroyed?" said one of the faces.

"Never mind that." said another "What of the two that saw the weapon and escaped? The Empires only have ever joined forces once before and that was to try and rid the universe of this technology. If they find out we've been weaponising it...."

"Please sirs. All is in hand. Whilst the primary site has been destroyed we still have the secondary site. The two loose ends you refered to will be eliminated shortly. This is not a time to panic. This is a time to be strong and trust in our people." the Admiral said strongly.

"Well said Admiral. But please note that if you fail, the second this story hits the news networks we'll be gone. Can you vanish as well as the rest of us?"

The Admiral just sat knowing he couldn't.

-o0o-

Back in their ship quarters Dorn opened a cupboard and pulled two cases out. He handed one to Kara before opening the other one. He pulled out a smart suit that appeared to be Gallente.

"What's this?" Kara asked lifting the case.

"Your new outfit. Hurry up and change!"

Kara opened the case as Dorn started to strip. Inside the case was a smart ladies business suit. She looked through the case and found shoes, makeup and jewelery. She glanced over at the semi naked Dorn and quickly looked away. The clothing looked expensive but closer inspection of the jewellery showed it was not real. The clothing too was probably fake. She had heard of the label and knew it would be worth her annual salary five times over if it was genuine.

"What is this for?"

Dorn sighed. "I'm taking you on a hot date." he said sarcastically "Hoping to get you drunk and end up in a three-way with you and this lady assassin that is chasing us!"

Kara through a shoe at him. Dorn had told her about what Lola had said, an agent of the State, beautiful but deadly, was stalking them. Whilst Dorn had left out what she'd actually inflicted on Lola, he'd made it clear that this agent would stop at nothing to catch them.

"Look, we've got to meet someone and where we're going, a smuggler and a secretary are going to stand-out like sore thumbs. We need to look like mega-corp executives. So suit up and meet me at the airlock in five."

Dorn was now dressed in a smart suit and looked a completely different man. He left the room to allow Kara to change.

She nervously stripped wondering where they were going and what danger they would face next.

For CSM 8, This Blog..... Will Be Mostly Supporting......

......Marc Scaurus.

Last year I supported Hans Jagerblitzen and was more than happy at that in the end. Not only did he get onto the CSM but became one of the hardest working members. This is confirmed through the Eve-O Blog Banter 43 where he received most of the nominations from his peers in the blogshpere as "CSM'r of 2012". Did I say most? Actually he was unopposed for that award!

It was last month that Hans declared he would not be seeking a second term. The amount of work he had put in the past year was a strain on real-life and his family. I'd just like to thank Hans for his Herculean efforts during CSM 7 and also making this blog look good in that it backed on of the stars of CSM 7 and not a useless free-loader! You know what I mean....

So with no Hans on deck (sorry) I need a new candidate to support this year. I'm after someone who is for low-sec, who knows what is broken here. Someone who is about the PvP whether that is faction war, piracy or like me, both at the same time. "G'aaarrrrrr for the Federation".

I'm looking for someone who wants to turn low-sec around. Not just for PvP but for everyone, the carebears, the industrialists, the farmers and the PvE'rs. Obviously I am bias and want more players attracted to low-sec so I can blow them up but that is not the point! Lets fix the risk verse reward which is the wrong way around.

Ideally I'd also like someone who is heavily involved in the OOG community. The Eve-O fansites, the blogs and the #tweetfleet.

I know this is asking a lot to find all this in a single CSM candidate...... hang on a second!!!! There's one right here in the Quantum Cats Syndicate!!!

Hi Marc and welcome to SC&S!
Thanks for having me, I'm a long time fan!

What made you decide to run for CSM8?
With Hans Jagerblitzen stepping down, I felt it was important to ensure that lowsec retains a strong and clear voice on the CSM, especially with the progress that CSM7 made with CCP. They are now focusing on the 'big picture' of EVE Online, making it more important than ever to have lowsec representation on the Council.

You are running under a low-sec agenda. What do you feel are the biggest problems in Low-Sec
The big issue with lowsec is the same as it ever was: too much risk for not enough reward. I know it is an old drum that has been beaten nearly to death over the years, but it still hasn't been satisfactorily addressed by CCP. I'm running to push forward for four key things when it comes to lowsec: Increasing its tangible impact on EVE; revitalizing industry in the area; bringing a wider variety of gameplay opportunities to lowsec; and continuing the work put in so far on faction warfare and crimewatch.

You have mentioned Sec Status before. I've always found it weird CONCORD doesn't care about null-sec, but that's the best place to rat up! What do you think the way forward on this is?
It is absolutely ridiculous that, in order to recover something lost in empire, the best route is to go outside the purview of 'the law'. Centering the ability to regain security status lost in lowsec in lowsec is a simple way to bring more activity to the area. As far as how to do that, the 'Tags for Sec' idea (which has been around awhile) is a relatively easy way - have lowsec-specific rats drop certain tags that can be redeemed at CONCORD locations in lowsec in return for small restorations of security status gains. Another way to do it could involve killing other outlaws for gains (though this would have to be implemented carefully to avoid exploitation), or offering 'redemption' in the way of CONCORD-sponsored activities in lowsec.

Faction War received a lot of work last year. Firstly it got more broken, then got more fixed. Do you think there is still more itteration to be had there?
Definitely. Faction warfare is, more or less, in a 'stable' state now. As you said, it was broken and then it got fixed. However, I'd love to see it grow further, into a feature that is stable over the long term, as well as has a greater impact on the universe. When the Gallente militia conquered all of Caldari's FW space, they got a medal for it - and everyone else in EVE (hell, most of lowsec as well) went along their merry way. Having FW make an impact on the rest of the game is a huge improvement to be made to the system. Of course, there are other things like an LP Store revamp (both in concept and in game) that would make FW all the better.

OK, how about a real hot potato. Incarna?
As launched, an absolute pile of crap. Thankfully, CCP is well on the road to recovery and has demonstrated a new commitment to Flying in Space content. That being said, I think that things like Dust 514 and the concept shown awhile back in Moscow of having capsuleers walking about in Sleeper stations (as an extension of the exploration process) have demonstrated that there is merit in the idea of, at some point, expanding beyond just spaceships. However, that is something that should be addressed slowly, over time, and with the majority of resources at CCP still dedicated to making the core EVE Online game better.

The (not) POS Revamp is another hot-topic. What are your views?
POSes are ancient things in the context of EVE Online, utilizing obsolete code and representing a huge effort just to sort out, much less improve upon. That being said, POSes also have a huge impact on more than just the people that run them. From null to low and high to w-space, POSes are a pain and need to be fixed - plain and simple. Thankfully, I think the community's opinion on the matter has been heard by CCP and I think it very likely that we will see POSes improved upon over the course of the next couple of years.
In terms of what we need to do to fix them, the list of complaints is a long one. The short of it is that we need POSes to have a better interface; to be easier to set up and maintain; and to provide more useful functions. While wormhole residents are understandably at the forefront of the POS push, improvements to POSes can also be greatly beneficial to lowsec. Lowering the barrier of entry into POSes is something I will also push for, if elected. Ownership should be something that everyone can experience and enjoy.

Can you give three examples of things you'd be looking to change/improve/itterate on in 2013/14
Just three?! I would push for lowsec's income generation abilities improved greatly (be it through new lowsec-specific resources, expansions to the exploration system in lowsec, or the improvement of industrial capabilities); I would like to see faction warfare improved upon to provide impact to all of New Eden; and beginning the process of revamping POSes are all top priorities for me in the coming year. Of course, there are tons of other things that I think are achievable and impactful to EVE Online - continuing work on bounty hunting (private bounties!), ensuring the link between Dust and EVE is done right (something which should be of concern to all of lowsec), as well as improving the CSM's transparency in a useful manner so that the players can more accurately judge the people they entrust with their voice.

I'm about done with my questions.... for now.... but in the style of Starship Troopers and DUST514, where can people go if they want to know more?
People are more than welcome to hit up my Forum post on the Eve-O forums with questions, comments or concerns. They can also read my original announcement on my blog, which also has contact details if they'd like to get in contact privately.

Well thank you Marc for taking time out to chat here. Any final words?
Thanks for the opportunity here! CSM8 is going to have an unprecedented opportunity to influence CCP's direction, both in the long term and for the expansions that fall under their term. It is absolutely imperative that lowsec have a strong, clear voice in order to push forward for further improvements. At the end of the term, what I aim to achieve is to have more people than ever in lowsec while preserving what lowsec is all about.

* The "mostly supporting" in the title is actually a nod to Jesse's Fashion/Diet tips from the Fast Show. Just couldn't get that out of my head when thinking of the title. For you non-Brits see here but I have a feeling the humour might not translate well.

The Night We Went to Visit the Goons.

Well that was an Eve packed weekend! It all started when I got a corp email on Thursday regarding an invitation to an event on Friday night. It looked to be an interesting fleet roam. Apparently it looked to be a mass drunken roam to null-sec with the expectation of everyone dying in a fire! I've copied the email below removing the names of the guilty parties and also taking out the list of fittings.

-o-

friday 8 feb - big ass b-day fleet of drunk and explosions
From: Someone in DnD who is FC
Sent: 2013.02.06 17:16
To: DnD and their friends

So, it's my b-day on friday and the plan is simple. Tier 1 BS, T1 logi, a couple suicide triage in backup, empty clones, alcohool and run around null throwing SBUs, camping stations and JBs till we piss off someone . THen get all exploded in a big ball of awesome and drink more.

Formup 20:00 Nisuwa , nullsec clones.

Fittings (in order of prefference) :

etc etc etc etc

-o-

The actual roam was programmed to start a bit late for me at midnight local time, but it sounded like proper fun. So I had a kip early evening after getting back from my afternoon drinking sesh. Remember Fridays are the first day of the weekend here so a great time to head down one of the local hotels, let the wife go for a swim in the pool, whilst I meet up with the lads for a refreshing pint or three at the adjacent bar!

I already had got my ship ready that morning. After getting the email I looked through the requested fittings and decide that my Disco Domi has been alive for far too long. So I stripped the fittings from it and refit to the requested doctrine of a Optimal Range Damping Domi. 350mm Railguns in the highs, a long point and 4 tracking distruptors with optimal range dampening scripts in the mids and full tank in the lows. Thankfully it was already triple-trimarked so I didn't need to mess with the rigs. The New Eden Flying Space Potato! All ready to bring pain and suffering to the null-bears!

The allotted time arrives and soon the fleet is up to 80 odd. The FC sounds already pissed and we've got mostly the required doctrines with a few ragtag fleet members bringing small stuff. Not that it is a problem, as BS tend not to be able to lock anything fast and the odd Rifter will provide some much needed fast tackle. Very soon we have a nice looking fleet on the undock of Nisuwa station ready to rock, and indeed, roll.

We start heading to 0.0 and a few poor squids and some odd neutrals jump into us on the way. Sort of spoils their roam when they jump the gate only to find an 80 strong war-target/pirate battleship fleet with fast tackle the other side. I never got on those early kill-mails as one of the other BS doctrines had sensor boosters fitted. Even Drakes die fast to that many BS shooting them in the face. Anyway we finally make it to null sec and head to our first destination, space in the sovereignty of the alliance Fatal Ascension. The plan was already in motion, along with the tier 1 battleships and assorted support we also have a cloaky hauler with us.

We arrive in L-C307 and dropped three SBU's that we brought along specially for this system. See, the cloaky hauler did have a purpose! We are hoping this will provoke a reaction from FA. It did....

[22:18:39] Dantheus > what do you cunts think you are doing?

Wow! Friendly bunch these FA guys! So we decide to attack the med-bay section of the station whilst the SBU's are onlining.

Wow again! Those things have a lot of hit points! We hear that FA think we have PL on the batphone and in the end FA give us sweet FA in the way of good fights. The most we saw of them were them undocking from the station one at a time in pods. We cannot be bothered grinding all those HP's on the station. So..... the FC decides to head to Goon space. Just to make sure we get a fight, not that I think that would have been an issue anyway, but we post in local that we are going to VFK. Either a local Goon or a friendly FA guy alerted the CFC that we were coming and soon we get intel that the Goons were clone jumping back to VFK and shipping up.

It was only a few jumps to VFK and we'd not been in the system a couple of minutes when a bubble went up and a Alpha-fleet landed on us. Literally..... landed on us....... as they got caught within their own bubble! Was either that or they had bad intel and warped to the wrong range!

A good few kills later on both sides and our logi is struggling so the FC calls in the suicide-triage. The goons then "dropped" a couple of Titans and doomsdays soon lit up the space! The Suicide Triage defiantly lived up to it's name. I was positioned directly between a Titan and its target and was treated to a great light show as the doomsday beam skimmed my hull. I cannot be sure the Titans cyno'd in or just warped to the fight in system. Hell, for all I know it was another bridge gone wrong! It was coming up to 3am and there had been a fair quantity of Bulmers cider consumed by that point. I was just trying to focus on shooting whilst going "Ooooooo pertieeeeee!!". I was too slow on the screenshot button though.

At this point I'm wondering what is up. I'm still alive! I'm never alive this long in big fleet battles. All I've had attack me so far is a Goon Celestis. I'm guessing that the alpha-BS had been complaining I was being a nasty man and dampening down their optimals. And to be fair to them, I had been. I picked a few sniper BS and stuck a tracking distruptor on each and then used my guns on the primary, stick drones on small crap buzzing about us. I guess alpha BS don't like being damp(ed).

Comms starts to get ominously quiet. I realise there are very few of us left and we're just trying to blap small stuff as we don't have the DPS to break the logi on the BS. The hostile FC finally gets around to calling me, one of the last alive, and I don't even broadcast for reps. One, there was no logi left that I knew of, and two, I went down like a sack of shit. My poor Domi was red boxed by 80+ angry Goons in big internet spaceships. Even with over-heated hardeners and twin plates my armour vanishes under a storm of fire. I think it was about 6 seconds between being yellow boxed and being sat in my pod!

I leave my pod drifting in the bubble, I saw no point trying to escape. It was past 3am, it was too many jumps to low-sec and it was an empty clone. Oh yeah, plus I was drunk. 12m ISK to upgrade the medical clone sounded a small price to pay for arriving instantly back home with no hassle. A minute later some nice Goon obliged and cracked my pod open. A while later I hear on Twitter that the CFC target callers had gone Z-A. Along with the fact I was in a Dominix appears to be the reason I was well down the list.

Now that was fun! A drunk fleet, good banter, a very good laugh and a cracking fight at the end.

*Fittings are now hardly secret tbh, just look at the KB to see :)

Into the Black - Part 5 - Old Friends

FFF - Fan Fiction Friday. Not your thing, go here then!

Into the Black - Part 5 - Old Friends

Dorn and Kara stepped off the Merlin class frigate and joined the walkway with the throng of others. The large hanger was crowded with people arriving and departing the State Protectorate Logistics Support station. As soon as they had emerged from the frigates passenger ramp Kara could see the massive grey walls and angular construction used in the station.

"This is a Caldari station!" she whispered.

"Yes. Don't panic. The false ID's we have are good for now and we're right on the edge of hi-security space. Keep calm and follow me." Dorn whispered back.

After a few minutes the crowds thinned out and the pair reached a bank of lifts. They entered and Dorn hit a button.

"So what are we doing here?"

"This is the border, next jump is into low-sec. It's a warzone inhabited by capsuleers, pirates and any one else who wants to stay away from the law. We need to cross it but we're going to need help. That Merlin will be torn to pieces by the eggers before we get one jump out. I have an old... friend, here who might be able to help us."

The lift open up onto a quite promenade on a low deck of the station. Generally the higher up you were in society, the higher you lived and worked on the station. The lower decks were full of the poorer elements of society. The air filters were less effective and less maintained. The air had a distinct metallic taste to it. Cleaning was less regular and graffiti streaked many of the walls. Dorn led Kara to a nearby bar. The bar itself was, like the rest of the deck, far from high class with broken windows and mis-matched furniture. Dorn approached a Matari man at the bar. Kara glanced around nervously, it looked the sort of bar a fight could break out at any minute and where you could get anything you wanted if you had the money. Several patrons eyed them suspiciously from their stools. Captain Jorn approached a man sat at the bar drinking.

"Hi J."

The Matari man turned his head and looked at the captain. He didn't show any expression as if Dorn wasn't even there. He turned his head to the bar man and signaled him over.

"Yes sir?"

"What the hell have you put in this drink?" he said threateningly whilst jabbing his finger towards the glass in front of him.

"Sir?" The barman looked nervous.

"Well I've only had two of these and I just thought I saw Captain Dorn stood here on this very station. I told myself that is impossible! Captain Dorn is a smart guy. He's not dumb enough to come back here!"

"J, I need to see the boss."

The barman moved away realising the tension and the man called J turned around to face them. He spent a little too long looking Kara up and down.

"The boss? Why don't you just find the nearest airlock and flush yourself? Trust me, you'll save yourself an hour and achieve the same result in the end."

"I need.... to see..... the boss." Dorn repeated.

"Oh well. I suppose I got to see this." J stated and threw some credit chips down on the top of the bar and headed for the exit.

-o0o-

The small cargo bay appeared to have a half-built domed structure in the centre. A walkway to nowhere vanished inside the small structure that looked like it had been ripped from the side of a station. Several armed men milled around. The entire set up looked odd. It was if some part of a spaceship that had been removed out of the craft and just dumped in the centre of the cargo bay. Large cables and pipes snaked over the cargo bays floor and vanished inside or attached themselves to ports on the outside of the structure.

"What is this J?" Dorn asked.

"The boss' business quarters. She hates the dull Caldari quarters on this station so she had a Gallent stations captains quarters shipped here from the Federation."

They approached the walkway that sprung out into the centre of the cargo bay.

"She's expecting you." J said stopping at the end of the walkway.

"You not coming in?"

"No man. I don't want to get blood splatters on this threads." He grinned.

Kara looked nervously at Dorn who showed no emotion. He stepped up to the walkway and started down the path towards the structure. Kara was close behind him. They entered the quarters which looked a world away from the rest of the station. Gone were the dull blue-grey walls and sharp lines. Here were subtle greens and curving architecture. The walked to the middle of the room and turned to see a woman sat on the sofa. Kara guessed she was early 30's. She was clearly Gallente with a classic bone structure and jet black hair. She wore a long dress that was slit on one side up to the thigh. She had her legs crossed showing several inches of flesh above her expensive stocking tops. The deep cut of the dress revealed more cleavage than Kara would ever consider showing except at a club. With the shady talk and armed guards, Kara had expected to find an older man, a typical head of some kind of criminal organisation. She did not expect a beautiful and sensual woman who clearly used her body as others in her position may use threats or violence.

"Well, well, well. Captain Dorn. It has been a long time." she purred.

"3 years." he stated matter-of-factly.

"Yes, three years. I've missed you."

Kara just didn't know what to believe. This greeting was not what she was expecting after what the man referred to as 'J' had been saying in the bar.

"And who is that delightful creature with you?" the woman smiled at Kara.

"She's with me." Captian Dorn cut in before Kara could say anything.

"Was she the reason?"

"No. We've only just met."

"Ah. Well in that case I won't have her skinned alive."

Kara's blood ran cold. She didn't know what they were talking about but she assumed the captain had done something to hurt the woman seated in front of them and it sounded like it involved another woman. Suddenly the woman who initially did not appear to be a threat now appeared to be very dangerous.

"Look Lola. I had to get out of here. The net was closing in. If I'd stayed they'd have got me and then they'd have traced things back to you. By fleeing nobody suspected anything between you and me. They were watching me, monitoring my comms, I couldn't risk contacting you. You're still here and free. Which wouldn't be the case if I'd stayed."

The woman called Lola stretched back on the sofa spreading her arms out wide.

"I suppose so. It's just I'm still to find a man who can perform like you did for me."

"I'm sure you have more than a few capable smugglers on your books."

"I was talking about in bed!"

Kara glanced at the Captain who was still showing no emotion.

"Well I'm sorry. I left to keep you safe. Now I'm back and I need your help. I need to get to Villore and without the authorities knowing."

"Is that all? I assume that these authorities are the State and are actively looking for you? So you turn up out of the black and want me to smuggle you and this girl through the hi-sec border, across a warzone filled with fighting empyrean's and pirates and get you through the Gallenete border the other side?"

"That's about the size of it."

The woman looked at them both. A small smirk appearing on her face. If Kara had to guess this woman was bored running her small organised crime syndicate. Dorn had just presented her with a challenge which she appeared to like.

"OK. Return here at 1900 station time. I will have what you need and we can then discuss payment for services rendered."

Dorn nodded and led Kara out of the quarters.

"Payment? How the hell are we going to pay her? We've got no cash to pay off a crime syndicate!" Kara whispered as they headed out of the cargo bay.

"Oh she won't want cash. It's a station legend, so make of it what you will, I believe it. Apparently she had a number of implants installed in her head. Similar to the ones the capsuleers use. Boosts to willpower and charisma, that sort of thing. During one of the procedures the doctor who was operating on her made a mistake. After she woke up she found the charisma implant was working fine but she had a problem, shall we say diplomatically that her libido was through the roof."

Kara looked at him as if he was joking.

"Oh I'm serious and I believe it. The doctor suffered a slow and painful death for his mistake. When she chooses you, you don't say no."

Kara laughed. "From the earlier conversation I assume she chose you often. Sounds like you were onto a good thing here!"

For once Kara noticed the Captain blush.

"Its no joke I can assure you. Same with any payment to a crime-boss. If the goods don't measure up, you're in deep, deep trouble. Anyway I'd stop this line of conversation if I was you." he replied "Because you can probably now guess what payment she'll expect tonight, and as she's really mad at me, and also as she goes 'both ways', well, you can guess what I'm getting at."

That indeed did shut Kara up.

-o0o-

A few hours later Lola returned to her quarters. She was smiling to herself. She'd managed to get everything in place. What sounded like an impossible task had taken her only two hours. A bribe to the stations docking manager, a captain and ship with fake transponder and flight plan, another bribe for stargate control and then two favours called in at low-sec stations. The only thing left was to choose her prize. A night with Captain Dorn would be pleasurable, she knew from past experience. But after he abandoned her like that? No, she needed him to suffer tonight not to spend it in pleasure. That gorgeous brunette he was with, she might be the better choice. Have him sweat the night through imagining what they were doing together. May be even insist he stay in the next room, alone. Leave a vent open and let him hear what he was missing. She could be very vocal, let him listen and suffer. She smiled to herself again at that thought.

As she was making plans for that night she suddenly became aware she was not alone. She looked into a mirror slowly to find a small, petite blonde sat on her sofa relaxing. Lola immediately realised the danger. If this individual was able to penetrate her security, she was a major threat. Without turning to face her she walked over to the bar and pulled out two glasses and a bottle.

"What can I get you?" she asked without turning as if it was an old friend behind her.

"Vodka. Gallente if you have it."

Lola nodded and retrieved the bottle from the rack. Everything she did was slow and obvious so not to spook her "guest". She poured two drinks and turned around. She then got a good look at the intruder. She was, as her reflection showed, a very attractive petite blond. She looked Caldari but didn't appear to have the appearance of one of the three main bloodlines. She wore a black one piece suit. Lola knew her fashion and this did not appear to be made of any material she could easily place. She guessed whilst it looked like a fashionable catsuit as worn by many fashion conscious ladies, it more than likely had hidden properties. She was now glad she hadn't gone for the scrambler pistol in the bar.

Lola approached and sat down next to the intruder on the sofa.

"So, how can I help you..... Miss......?"

"We don't really need names do we?"

"I suppose not. So, what do you want?"

"We've been tracking an old friend of yours, Captain Dorn, to this system. My intel shows that you two were very good friends." the blond reached out and put her hand on Lola's knee in an overly friendly gesture. "Very, very good friends."

"Yes, but 'were' is the operative word there. I've not seen that asshole in three years. He ran off, abandoned me and was never heard from again. He may have been a decent lover, but if he ever shows up here again he'll find that these days I'm more interested in seeing his whole body stiff rather than just one particular part!"

The blond was slowly stroking Lola's stocking clad leg and smiling. Lola knew she was not what she appeared.

"Well, he is in this system and he has a new woman in his life. I'm willing to pay.... handsomely for any information."

"Captain Dorn's love life is no concern of mine anymore. And as for payment, does it look like I'm poor and need...."

Lola's voice trailed off as the blonds hand slip up high and vanished up the slit in her skirt. She let out a small gasp. The blond smiled seductively.

"I know everything about you. I know the payment you usually require." Lola's breathing became shallow and rapid as the blond stared into her eyes, working her. "And you should know that I am the best you could ever have." Lola was on the edge of loosing control, the blonds face was inches away from her as the sensations started to build inside her. "I can please you in ways you'd never imagine and take you to heights you've only dreamed of." Lola was quietly moaning now and rocking slowly back and forth. The agents face was now almost touching Lola's. Lola opened her lips slightly hoping she would move in. "Just tell me where they are and you'll receive payment like you've never experienced" Lola had her eyes closed and her visage was one at the height of extreme pleasure, she licked her lips and arched her head back as she gasped.

Suddenly the petite blond stopped and moved her hand away. Lola came down like a lead weight. Her eyes sprung open, her face was one of anger and disappointment.

"No advanced payment I'm afraid" the blond smirked as she drew back on the sofa placing a finger in her mouth. Lola's face had changed and now was one of outrage.

"You'll get nothing from me bitch!" Lola spat losing control of her temper. "If Captain Dorn is stupid enough to make contact with me he's a dead man anyway."

"A dead man? Sorry but I need him alive." said the blond as she slipped her finger from her mouth and reached into her bag. Lola froze expecting a gun or a knife. What the blond actually produced was a something shaped like a pen. She pressed a button on the side a a jet of blue flame roared out the end. Lola backed off slightly.

"I have this for burning through thin metal like access panels and the like. I really wish we could have done this the pleasurable way, I've very good you know. Now unless you give up Captain Dorn, I'm going to be forced to, shall we say, desensitise you. Just one small burn and that'll be it. With your medical condition, how long do you think you can keep your sanity? So which is it going to be? The easy way? Or the hardest way you can ever imagine?"

Lola looked terrified thinking of the consequences as the agent slowly waved the blue flame back and forth.

-o0o-

"Are you ready for this?" the Captain asked?

"There is no other way?"

"We'd not get past the Tama stargate without her help. We cannot be far in front of your ex-employers. So the choices are getting Lola to help us, being exploded in space by eggers or captured by the State which will lead to a rather nasty interrogation about what we've been up to the last few days before facing a firing squad."

Kara knew he was right but the price was high.

"Well I'd hate to mess up my hair in an explosive decompression and I'm not sure this dress will looked right when I'm strapped to a metal table in a State interrogation room, so I agree Lola's help appears the best option. When will we leave?" Kara tried to make light of the situation.

"I'd like to leave now but Lola will want her payment from one of us. We'll leave first thing in the morning."

Kara looked highly uneasy as they approached the cargo bay.

"Can you do this? Have you, ever, you know." The Captain asked.

This time it was Kara's turn to look embarrassed.

"One time, at college. Don't worry. If she choose me, I'll make the payment."

They reached the cargo bay door and immediately Dorn knew there was something wrong. He stopped suddenly and held his arm out to stop Kara.

"What?"

"No guards. This isn't right. Stay behind me."

They entered the cargo bay slowly, keeping to the edges that were cast shadow. The guards were all down and had been dragged into cover behind crates and boxes. Pools of blood surrounding their lifeless bodies.

"Stay here."

Captain Dorn moved over to one of the bodies. He saw the man had had his throat slit. He picked up the rifle next to the body and checked it. It was a 'Killswitch' GEK-38 Assault Rifle with a 60 round clip. It had not been fired. The guard had been obviously been taken by surprise. Dorn took the rifle and Kara watched from the shadows carefully enter the captains quarters in the centre of the bay.

He found Lola on the sofa and nearly retched at the sight. Blood had pooled on the sofa from her wrists which each had a deep cut. A bloodied knife was laying next to her left hand. He rushed over and cradled her head. A slight moan escaped her lips shocking him. She was still alive.

"Stay with me Lola. I'll get help."

"No. Don't." her voice was a feint whisper. "I'm ending it here. There is a woman. She is after you. Beautiful, deadly. She killed all the guards single-handedly. When I wouldn't turn you in she threatened me. When I still refused..... she...... she...... burnt me. She knew my condition Dorn, and she burnt me knowing what it would do to me. Let me go. I wouldn't be able to live like this. I'd go crazy within the week. I gave her a false time and location. She's waiting for you in the wrong place. You haven't got long before she realises. Go. Go to Hanger 434. Your ride is waiting." Lola smiled at Dorn before her eyelid's flickered and she stopped moving. A single tear ran down Dorn's cheek. He ran his palm over her face to close her eyes and gently settled her lifeless body back onto the sofa.

Kara came out of the shadows as Dorn walked over.

"So, who does she want? Is it you...... or me?" Kara asked nervously.

"No payment needed." Dorn said solemnly. "But we have to go. Now."

The assualt rifle clattered as Dorn tossed it to the ground and guided Kara to the exit.

-o0o-

One hour later they arrived at a small private docking berth. The captain was in the office.

"Lola sent us." Dorn announced.

"Wasn't expecting you until the morning."

"Change of plan. We need to leave now."

"As you wish."

The three exited the office through a back door that accessed the ship hanger. Captain Dorn blew a low whistle through his teeth.

"A Manticore!"

"Yeah." replied the captain. "If you are going through the Nourv/Tama stargate, you need a cloak otherwise you've got a 50/50 change of dying in a fire to an egger gate camp. Be aware, I'm simply here to get you into low-sec and two jumps out. Tama is not safe to dock there with all the eggers hanging around the undock. So you have a choice. Sujerento or Nisuwa."

"Nisuwa." Captain Dorn replied without hesitation.

"You sure? I'd recommend the Fliet pipe. A lot less traffic along there."

"I'm sure. We're taking the Oinasiken pipe."

"Your the boss! In that case you want this." The captain handed Dorn an envelope. He glanced in it and smiled before nodding to the captian.

The captain showed them to their quarters and left to get the ship underway.

"If I remember my college astro-geography lessons, the Fliet area is Gallente controlled but the Oinasiken area is Caldari controlled. Aren't we going the more dangerous way?" Kara asked when they were alone.

"You DID learn a lot in college didn't you!" he smirked referring to their earlier conversation. Kara threw a cushion at him smiling.

"A lot has changed since you went to college. Black Rise and the surrounding areas aren't what they used to be. The Caldari have a strong presence and control Fliet and the surrounding systems, whilst the Gallente hold pretty much everything from Kedama down to Old Man Star. Also we need to consider the Eggers."

"The Capsuleers?"

"Yes. We're going to need one to cross the war zone. Nisuwa is the basing station to a host of Gallente militia corporations. Things have changed drastically in the last few years. Used to be the Gallente Militia upheld the law, even in low-sec. Now many of them are nothing more than pirates with a cause. This ship will get us to them."

"So what was in the envelope?" Kara asked.

"ID's appropriate for the Oin pipe. And an invite card to a bar."

Kara groaned.

"I hope this bar is better than the last one!"

Their conversation was broken by the sound of the intercom.

"All hands prepare for departure. Undocking in T minus 1 and a half. Next stop, low security space! Buckle up and hope we don't bump into any Legion strategic cruisers!"

"Legions?" Kara asked the Captain.

"One of the few capsuleer ships that can be fit to insta-lock and catch and kill a stealth bomber on a stargate."

Kara swallowed hard as the ship jolted as the docking clamps released and the ship exited the docking bay.

POS - Help! Help! I'm Being Repressed!

"Consider yourself fuelling POS towers for the next six months. It's people like you who let the Caldari get ANYWHERE in the first place!" - Jared Mason, Clear Skies II

So the CSM minutes cause a lot of disappointment and tears throughout the community. CCP had said at Fanfest they were hoping to look at modular POS'. The previous CSM minutes spit-balled some ideas, even mounting defences on them and fitting a jump drive to them! We we're excited. Then in the last minutes CCP said no!

Why? Well they gave two reasons. Firstly was a real Homer Simpson one, the second I'd like to postulate on!

1. Its too much work (If something is hard to do then it's not worth doing - Homer J Simpson)

2. Our metrics show there is only a tiny amount of the player-base using POS'

OK, I'm not going to comment on point one, but I have some things to say about point two.

Firstly I would ask the question, how many players do we have in Eve Online? Before anyone says 400,000, you are wrong. There are 400,000 active accounts, not 400,000 people. I have four accounts myself. I know some people with 20+. I've heard of some with 96! So how many individual players are there? Not as many as you might think, and if they have a "POS toon" within one of their accounts, that small percentage of the "player-base" becomes much larger. What if the average number of accounts is 4? Then we have 100,000 people playing. Now how many PEOPLE (not characters) in Eve use POS's?

Statistics are part of my job and when I am training new Engineers I always tell them...

"There are lies, damn lies and statistics."

There are computer programs these days that do most of the data analysis for you in an instant in my field. When I have new Engineers training I force them to start doing the analysis manually by hand for the first few months. Why? Because 1, I'm a miserable bastard and if I had to do it 20 years ago so can they! But more importantly, 2, because computers do not think.

One of the examples I use demonstrates this exactly. They come to me with the answer and I go through the data with them and my answer is the direct opposite of theirs.

"So I did something wrong?"
"No. You were right."
"So you're wrong?"
"No my answer is right!"
"How can you have two answers, from the same data, which completely disagree with each other?"
"Well, there are lies, damn lies and statistics."

Metrics can be useful, but you need to be careful using them. Now I assume the clever people at CCP know this. So moving on I am now going onto the second part of 'metrics'....

Repressed Demand

This is a term we use in traffic engineering and it is common in other fields. What is repressed demand?

Take a busy main street with lots of fast, weaving traffic and high portion of heavy trucks. You count the cyclists in a day and find there are 20 using the road.

You suggest an adjacent cycle-path be installed.
There is a lot of opposition as "nobody uses this route for cycling, its a waste of money for 20 people a day!"
You build it.
A few weeks later the cyclist count is undertaken again and now there are 300 cyclists now per day.
Where did they come from?????

Basically it was repressed demand. People wanted to cycle that route but were put off because of by the existing conditions. By providing them with their own facility and removing the barrier, you unleashed the demand. So is there an additional demand of POS in Eve? A repressed one?

According to CCP a small section of the player base use POS' in Eve. I don't much. I've never erected or owned a POS. I've fuelled a corp POS a couple of times when it was screaming. I've lived out of a POS for a few days in a system I couldn't dock in. But I have used POS's hundreds of times for various combat operations.

Why have I never had a POS myself?

Because everyone says that they are a bloody PITA for little benefit! The mechanics are antiquated, the fuelling it a hassle, the hanger mechanics are annoying and various other reasons along the PITA line.

Now if the mechanics were overhauled to make it user friendly, they were given more uses and became a persons "home in space", as has been previously discussed, what will the demand be then?

I think it would be through the POS' roof! I know I would likely have one!

So yes CCP, I am sure you are right that there is only a small percentage of the "character base" owning and running POS' currently. But please, ask yourself why?

BB43 Summary - The Podars

Ladies, Gentlemen, Children of all ages and Immortals. Welcome to the first annual Podars award ceremony! The members of the Eve Online blogging community have made their nominations and have cast their votes. Tonight we celebrate the best, and in some cases the worse, that New Eden gave us in the year 2012.

This evening we will be presenting awards in 21 categories, down from over 100 individual categories suggested by the "Bantereeno Academy". So, without further a-do lets move onto our first award and here to present the awards are the golden couple of New Eden, Bagdel.

Ship of the Year 2012
The nominees comprised of a mix of old favourites like the Hurricane to the brand new like the Venture (Interstellar Privateer). Even the New Eden Space Potato was nominated (Diaries of a Space Noob)! However, there can only be one winner..... actually there isn't as there were 9 nominations and each one was different! Bollocks, this is off to a bad start already!

Best Overhaul/Improvement/Module of the Year
The Ancillary Shield Booster was nominated by Morphisat's Blog and Jester's Trek. Interstellar Privateer nominated both the Crimewatch overhaul and the SMA/CHA Inventory Speed fix. However, with two votes the ASB is 2012's Best Overhaul/Improvement/Module of the Year!

CCP Dev of the Year
There were a lot of nominees for various categories of CCP Developer awards which have been condensed down to two categories. This first category recognises awesomesauce in the field of furthering important internet spaceships. Whilst we had single votes for Veritas, Explorer and Stillman. CCP Fozzie was a popular choice with nominations from Interstellar Privateer, Eve Opportunist, The Ramblings of an Eve-Radio DJ and Crossing Zebras and walks away with the golden pod!

Most Approachable/Nicest/Promising Dev
The second of the developer awards goes to those who keep us entertained and enthralled on the forums and social media with information, banter and general chitchat about important internet spaceships.... and cake.
CCP Eterne was nominated by Interstellar Privateer, CCP Punkturis by Morphisat's Blog, CCP Diagoras by Sindel's Universe. Interstellar Privateer and Poetic Discourse both went for the winner, CCP Explorer.

Corp/Alliance of the Year
As expected the big names are here such as the Goons (Interstellar Privateer and Fiddlers Edge), TEST (Interstellar Privateer and Fiddlers Edge again) and Verge of Collapse (Interstellar Privateer and Emergent Patroller). OGREI was nominated by Tetras Eve Blog. -A- was nominated by Fiddlers Edge. Its a three way tie with no clear winner between Goons, TEST and VoC!

Player/Menace/Nemesis/Hero/Villain of the Year
A tight race between the three nominees @akely (Morphisat's Blog), Loren Gallen (Sand, Cider and Spaceships) and The Mittani (The Nosy Gamer). In fact it is so tight, it's a draw!

Best CSM Member
Interstellar Privateer, Malefactor and The Nosy Gamer all agree there can only be one. Hans Jagerblitzen!

Best Event, Project or Contest
This category looks at non-CCP events in 2012. The Angel Project was nominated by Interstellar Privateer, the Pod and Planet Fiction Contest again by Interstellar Privateer and also by Emergent Patroller. The Tuskers Free-For-All by Interstellar Privateer and Diaries of a Space Noob. The Vagabond Frill Campaign by Mabrick's Mumblings and Odda's Smart-Bombing Titan being Hot-dropped by FW noobs by Sand, Cider and Spaceships. The winner being.... a tie between the P&P Fiction Contest and the Tuskers FFA!

Best OOG Tool
As expected Aura and Dotlan did well will with nominations from both Interstellar Privateer and Mabrick's Mumblings leaving them tied as joint winners.

Best Podcast/DJ
A hotly contested category with 12 nominees. Voices from the Void was nominated by 2nd Anomaly from the Left, Fiddler's Edge and Inner Sanctum of the Ninveah. Crossing Zebras was nominated by Malefactor, Fiddler's Edge, Poetic Discourse and Sindel's Universe. The Nosy Gamer recognised the works of DJ Wiggles and DJ FunkyBacon whilst Interstellar Privateer and Emergent Patroller asked for Down the Pipe to be considered. But with four nominations the Golden Pod goes to Crossing Zebras.

Best Eve/News Website.
This category is for Eve related websites. Other than the votes for Eve Bloggers by Mabrick's Mumblings and Morphisat's Blog, two sites dominated this catagory. Eve News 24 was in second place, but with seven nominations, theMittani.com is the clear winner.

Best Other Media
This category recognises media other than websites, blogs and podcasts. Video, magazines and PDF's are all examples of what we are talking about here. JonnyPew was nominated by Interstellar Privateer and Shelter for an Empyrean and walks away with the award beating Mark726's Lore Guide, Eon Magazine and a comprehensive list of Eve Online YouTube'rs from Shelter for an Empyrean.

Best Blog
Condensing all the various blog categories down to two was a mammoth task. Of the 52 blogs that were nominees, six had three or more nominations. Daries of a Space Noob was suggested by Fiddler's Edge, Interstellar Pivateer and Jester's Trek. Eveoganda was nominated by 2nd Anomaly from the Left, Aggressive Logistics, EveHermit, Sand, Cider and Spaceships and the Nosy Gamer. Low Sec Lifestyle received votes from Interstellar Privateer, The Nosy Gamer and Diaries of a Space Noob. Poetic Discourse was voted for by Crossing Zebra's, EveHermit, Jester's Trek and Malefactor. The Nosy Gamer received votes from Interstellar Privateer, Jester's Trek and Mad Haberdashers. But the winner was nominated by 12 Banter's including blogs such as Sered's Live's and Eve Opportunist, gives Jester's Trek a good win here.

Most Controversial Blog
Whilst many Banterers made individual blog categories that would fit into the Best Blog category  one special category did repeat. That of most controversial blog. Interstellar Privateer, 2nd Anomaly from the Left, Fiddler's Edge, Sindel's Universe and The Ramblings of an Eve-Radio DJ all nominated the same blog and there were no other nominees. None. Congratulations Poetic Discourse.

Best Fiction.
A small category with nominations for Sand, Cider and Spaceships by Diaries of a Space Noob and for Emergent Patroller by A Journey Through the Mind leaving a tie. Given it is a small category Freebooted gets a mention as he was nominated by the above.

Champion of the Community/Lifetime Achievement
This was a two horse race between Mr Banter aka Seismic Stan and Arydanika for her work in the world of podcasts. But with four out of the nine nominations, the Blogfather gets the Golden Pod.

Best Drama/Derp/Could Have Destroyed Eve but Chose Not To/Whoopsie Award
Although Makula (nominated by Sered's Lives) and "The Live Streaming Botter" (The Nosy Gamer) received nominations five of the seven nominations were for one man.... who was very drunk.... was given a microphone....... and then did 'that' presentation at Fanfest. The Mittani.

The Honourable Mention Award
This catagory see's all those "best" categories from the various blogs that didn't fit in well to any other catagories. Some I suspect were tongue in cheek like the nomination of Makula Zarya by Sindel's Universe. Others were more heart-felt  such as Malefactor voting for Rixx Javix and Seismic Stan. Some were positively gushing with Diaries of a Space Noob voting for the entire Eve-O community. However, with two votes the Golden Pod goes to Rixx Javix.

The Dis-Honourable Mention.
There were a collection of categories that fit in to this award, the sort of Golden Raspberries. This included things like "Most Mis-leading Blog" and "Keep trying, you might get there one day" type categories  The "winner" with two votes in areas entitled along the lines of "I'm in a bad mood as I had a great idea, why does everyone hate it?" was CCP Greyscale.

Everyone is a Winner
Our final award goes to EVERYONE! Both A Missioner in Eve and Eveoganda did not give any nominations but wanted to spread the love far and wide. Therefore the winner of this catagory is YOU!

Well that is it for the actual awards. If you are interested in how the winners were chosen......

The Nominees.

This was HELL to do! Everyone had their own different categories. Some were similar and easy to merge, some were utterly unique. In order for this to work I had to condense the categories down to something manageable. I also condensed the nominees from various blogs. If someone mentioned 5 or 6 contenders but named an overall winner, that winner is included below. If someone just listed nominees without identifying a clear winner then they all went in below. Also, unfortunately I had to guess some of the categories and try to ascertain if they were good or bad. "Does the title of that award mean I should include it in the honourable or dishonourable mentions????" Additionally if I had used all the categories we'd have 100 with one nominee in each. For example the "Best blog" includes "Best new comer/technical/political/null sec/industry/mechanics/guides/eye candy/best use of the word goobledegook etc etc etc. Final issue was the "lost in translation" effect. I had to Google some names of categories as they meant nothing to this Middle East residing Englishman! If I've interpreted your blog entry wrong, I'm sorry, but after doing the below my head is about to burst!

Here are all the individual nominations:-
