The Fanfest Plan!

Right, so the schedule for Fanfest is out and it's looking good. No major clashes (where there are two talks I want to be at going on at the same time) unlike last year where there were several things going on at the same time I wanted to go to. There are also only two sessions where nothing really catches my eye, again unlike last year where there were several. This years a good one for me!

Wednesday:-
Arrive!
Tweetfleet Meet

Thursday:-
Sober up.
Breakfast.
Register at Harpa when feeling human.

The Delivery Boy - The Conclusion

Friday Fiction! Escape pod here!

The Delivery Boy - The Conclusion

Kamaala stood as he heard the door to her Captain's Quarters opening. His orders had been to procure her a Raven class battleship and meet her at the station. He was nervous which he found ironic for a supposedly fearless field agent of the State. His job was to operate alone behind enemy lines, deep in Federation space. His small shuttle was equipped with sophisticated covert electronics allowing him to hack and scan, relaying information back to his assigned capsuleer. Whilst he'd messaged her through the encrypted channels many times daily, they'd only met in person a few times. She always intimidated him by her presence. After all he was mortal. She was immortal. A capsuleer. A god of destruction. The door opened and she entered.

"Ma'am!" he greeted, always unsure of the proper etiquette when addressing a capsuleer in person.

"Kam. Is everything ready?" she asked grabbing a bottle of water from the table and downing it in one. He let her finish the drink knowing her new body would be dehydrated.

"Yes Ma'am. I took the liberty of upgrading your requested ship. It was reasonably priced and should be able to cope with the Navy better than a Raven. Well, at least long enough for you to complete what you need to do." he paused. "So it went down exactly as you said then?" he asked carefully.

"It did. They blew me away before I had even chance to explain myself. It was expected, although I was hoping to let them know a bit more about me before it happened. Oh well I'm sure they searched the body and found out what I am. I suppose this way will make this next bit all the more terrifying for them."

"What was it like? You know, the other way?"

She sat down and rubbed her neck.

"It was different. I have died so many times in my capsule I cannot count. However that Templar Prototype Implant, it is... different. In the pod, once the AI detects a breach it injects me with a neurotoxin that kills me instantly before scanning and transferring my brain state. I don't really feel all that much. However, that Templar Implant, the Sleeper Tech, it waits until you are dead. I felt the bullet enter me. I felt the pain. I felt myself slipping away, dying. Hopefully the last time I have to do that. Horrible! Anyway, lets see what you got me!" she said rising from the sofa.

They walked out of the captain's quarters along the capsule gantry into the vast hanger. She gave a low whistle. Huge cruise missiles were being loaded into the ships open cargo hold.

"I thought you might need something a bit better than a Raven and this was a steal."

Kamaala stood at the front of the gantry, admiring the ship.

"Given the Navy ships tend to use energy neutralisers I fitted a pair of capacitor booster and there are plenty of charges in the hold. Obviously you've lost your web and point but for the, erm, less subtle nature of your intended mission I thought that would not be an issue. Just remember the Navy has a lot of resource in this area and they will come at you. It'll be a while before they can get any battleships here so expect frigates and cruisers initially." he said turning to face her. "You don't have forever, you'll need to....."

He quickly spun around again to face the ship. Whilst he'd been talking she'd stripped off and was standing there completely naked. He tried to remove the image from his minds-eye. She was perfect, then again she could tweek her body in anyway she wished. Each clone could be slightly different if she wanted. Designer bodies.

"I really do wish you wouldn't keep doing that!" he sighed "Its difficult enough being couped up in that little shuttle for weeks on end without these sorts of... distractions!"

She walked past him towards the steps that led down to the hydrostatic capsule as if nothing was wrong. She glanced over her shoulder and gave him a cheeky smile and a wink. He took a quick look at her perfect skin and the curve of her shapely behind. The skin of a clone only hours old would be softer than anything he'd ever felt. He shook his head to remove the thought.

"Get into space, I might need you to scout!" she said as she turned her back to the pod facing him. Metallic tentacles snaked out of the olive-green capsule automatically attaching to the sockets in her back. He watched in fascination as her head fell forward, her consciousness now within the olive green pod. Trying desperately to focus on her face.

"Now!" came the voice but not from her unconscious body but his datapad.

He turned and quickly headed for his own ship.

-o0o-

"She's Caldari Militia. A good pilot. Her killboard shows she takes no prisoners." the aide stated to Reuvo leading over her shoulder looking into the datapad. "We can see no connection between her, the three we are holding or the police on Caldari Prime. In fact her kill log suggests she operates typically in Northern Black Rise, far away from here. Hasmijalla, Sujerento, Tama. Nothing as far down as Old Man Star border area and certainly not into Villore."

Reuvo looked at the scrolling list of kills. Thousands of ships destroyed and millions of lives lost. It made no sense why a capsuleer would walk into her club like that. They'd killed an immortal. That would come back to bite them.

The door opened and the three prisoners were led in. She nodded at her aide to leave and stood.

"You are going to sit at this terminal and delete the copy of the video you put on the GalNet!" she said addressing Jullynes.

"No. You've already played your hand so we know what's in store if I do. You'll let us go and once we're clear of Serpentis territory I'll delete it."

Reuvo slammed her fist into the desk making everyone jump.

"No you little shit. You'll do it now or your girlfriend and mother will pay for the delay!"

"I don't think so. You killed a Empyrean. An independent capsuleer. Right now there is likely a fleet of her friends out there looking for you. I think its a better idea you run planet side and hope they don't have orbital bombardment ammo. We'll take the opportunity to relocate. You don't have time and I know you're going to kill us all after I delete the file. We are witnesses to you murdering a Capsuleer. Let us go and we can make a deal over the recording."

Reuvo wanted to beat the pup to a pulp for his insolence but he was right. Her ship was being loaded right now with everything it could carry. They didn't have time for this. However if she was going to continue running she'd need funds, and the hold over the police on that C-Prime city was her best bet for a regular income.

"Take the women. Usual situation, Lock 3 and turn the comms on!" she said addressing Vreau.

There was a brief struggle as the henchmen dragged the two screaming women away as Jullynes fought back pointlessly against the huge henchmen.

-o0o-

Sonnibel had his feet up on the console, he was bored. The Coreli Guardian class cruiser slowly orbited the acceleration gate. They were the first line of protection for the outpost which was located in a 'dead-space' pocket. An area of space where violent sub-space eddies preventing ships from forming a stable depleted vacuum bubble which was required for faster-than-light travel. That was the second line of defense, no ship could warp direct to the outpost. The only way to reach it was to travel at sublight speeds which would take far too long or use an acceleration gate. This massive structure would propel the ship to warp speeds without the need for warp drive. You could not activate the gate or hack it with the cruisers there. They prevented anyone unauthorised from using the gate.

He looked down at the five crew manning the various bridge stations. They looked as bored as he was. Several were on their datapads, probably surfing the GalNet or playing some stupid game. This posting was as boring as it got. The Serpentis went to great lengths to ensure the mega-corps did not care about this outpost. They were more interested in the military sites or narcotic production facilities. Every day the mega-corp's agents sent capsuleers out to deal with these threats, every day the Serpentis rebuilt and gained ground. If only they knew this little, insignificant dead-space pocket housed the command and control of their operation from the low-sec boarder all the way to Caldari Prime.

Amidier glanced up at him with a smile. Whilst both of them were in relationships, they'd been having an affair for the last six months. Her expression changed to a serious one.

"Captain, can I speak to you privately?" she said.

"Yes Ensign. My ready room. XO, you have the bridge."

As they left the bridge the other crew glanced at each other rolling their eyes or smirking. It was not a great secret.

Sonnibel entered the small office off the bridge.

"Yes Ensign...."

She pounced on him, knocking him back onto the desk. Their mouths clashing. She sucked his bottom lip between her teeth and pulled. He winced in a mix of pleasure and pain. Sliding down his body she pulled his pants down. He gasped as she took him in his mouth. His whole body shook. It took a second for him to realise hit wasn't just him. His eyes sprang open and the room was flashing red. They struggled to their feet as the ship shook violently again, adjusting clothing and burst back onto the bridge.

"Report!" he yelled.

"Contact sir! One ship just dropped out of warp on top of us and opened up!"

"Lets see it!" he commanded.

The viewscreen changed from the local star maps to the forward camera. There were gasps.

"That's..... That's a Golem class Marauder!" he said in shock.

They silently watched the cruise missiles streak from the launchers on top of the huge battleship. Their contrails showing the change of direction, a direction straight towards them.

"Status?" the Captain said, his voice breaking.

"We've already taken two volleys. Shields are down. Armour at..... oh god..... 45%." came the reply.

They watched the fiery engines of the missiles grow larger. Everyone on the bridge knew there was nothing they could do.

-o0o-

"We've lost contact with the gate defense wing!"

The man bursting into the room looked scared.

Reuvo span around. The holoscreen she stood in front of displayed an airlock. Inside Ylle and Awel screamed pressing their hands against their ears. Jullynes was sat in a chair in front of the screen sobbing. Two men held him in place and forced him to watch. They'd explained to him what would happen if he didn't delete the file. The airlock would very slowly depressurize, however the percentage of oxygen would increase appropriately. The two women would suffer hideous pain but not suffocate as the partial pressure of the oxygen would sustain them until they died of pressure related injuries. Reuvo had boasted that even after the ear drums rupture and the eyeballs burst, a person could still last hours if the pressure dropped slow enough. The lungs were very flexible in that regard and were the last thing to go.

"Put the warp-in on screen!" she quickly instructed. The display of the two screaming women vanished to be replaced by the external starfield. The screams coming from the speakers suddenly silenced as the video feed changed. In the distance a small beacon flashed red indicating the area where ships propelled by the distant acceleration gate would arrive. A bright flash of white light several hundred kilometers away indicated a ship dropping below light speed. The gathered Serpentis held their breath, hoping for one of their cruisers to be the new arrival. The screen was suddenly filled by the rapidly deccelerating Golem.

"Frack me!" one of the men mumbled.

The AI automatically scanned the ship and highlighted something leaving one of the bays. Five small specks on the screen. A green box was overlaid on each as the stations systems tracked and scanned them. Finally details popped up.

"Warrior II's. Fast attack drones. They don't want anyone leaving." another of the men mumbled.

The screen indicated an incoming message. Reuvo pressed the accept.

"So, can we start this conversation again?" the voice spoke. Reuvo gasped recognising the voice.

"Yes, we capsuleers do not die so easily. I have your outpost locked and my drones will destroy anything that tries to leave. You have 2 minutes to put your three prisoners into escape pod 32 and launch it. That is all."

The connection cut. The room fell quiet.

"What are you idiots waiting for?" Reuvo screamed "Do it!"

The men took off, one dragging Jullynes by his collar. Reuvo  paced the empty room checking her watch. Capsuleers may be immortal but they were not known for their patience. That Golem could easily destroy the outpost in a matter of seconds. She saw three flashes of light on the view screen. More ships arriving. The AI overlaid details of the new arrivals. These were not Caldari militia, it was the Federal Navy. Hope flashed in front of Reuvo. Of course, this capsuleer was an enemy of the Federation! The Navy would have been tracking her from the moment she entered their space. She was about to recall her men when she looked at the new arrivals. Two frigates and a cruiser. The outside of the outpost lit up as the navy ships opened fire on the battleship. Reuvo didn't even need to look at the tactical overview, she knew those three ships would be hardly scratching the vast Marauder.

"Pod away!" Vreau's voice sounded over the comm system.

Reuvo watched as a bright white beam shot from the Golem and engulfed the small escape pod. A tractor beam. Within seconds the pod was safely aboard the battleship and Reuvo sighed in releaf. Suddenly the Golem started to change shape. Huge glowing blocks appearing from the top of the ship. Reuvo cried out. The Marauder was entering Bastion mode. Meaning it was about to attack.

"We did what you told us!" Reuvo screamed into the comms on a wide broadcast. "We let them go!"

There was a pause.

"Yes you did. However check your logs, I never said what would happen after you did."

Reuvo stood trembling, watching in horror as the Golem continued to completely ignore the small Navy vessels and launched a salvo of cruise missiles. The weapons arced high into space, away from the ship before turning towards the outpost, their intended target. Reuvo started to run.

Ylle and Jullynes stood in the medical bay as the medical drones worked on Awel. They had been assured them it was a simple operation to restore her lost fingers. A flash of light stunned the guests however the medical staff ignored it. The holographic figure walked towards them. They recognised it as the capsuleer.

"Are you all OK?" she asked. There was concern in her projected voice.

"Yes, but why are you doing this?" Jullynes asked.

"For my daughter." the capsuleer repiled looking at Ylle .

Ylle looked at the hologram stunned. "That's impossible!" she stammered.

"Look we're about to jump. We have the Navy chasing us and I need to get out of Federation space. The State has control of the Quafe station in Old Man Star. Clordilen show our guests to some quarters. I'll join them when we dock."

With that the hologram vanished. Ylle and Jullynes were shown to a cabin where they waited in silence. They felt the jump, the acceleration to warp and the shudder as the ship was docked in the station. Ten minutes later the capsuleer entered. Her hair still wet.

"I suppose you deserve an explanation." she said sitting opposite the two. Ylle could only nod not believing that this woman, who looked only a few years older could be her supposedly dead mother.

"It was twenty years ago. Caldari Prime was a lot different to what it is now. This was before Heth, before the Empyrean Wars. We lived in relative peace. However the tensions still ran high. Some idiot decided it might bring us all together if we had a joint defense force. So they took the new Navy cadets from both sides and mixed us up into the C-Prime Defense Academy. It was a disaster! They paired us up, one Caldari, one Gallente. Individuals could not graduate, only pairs. Work together and pass together, or fail. I was placed with your father." the capsuleer smiled whilst thinking back.

"Oh we really hated each other. The animosity from the war had never left. We studied and fought in equal measures. I truly hated him, that Gallente man. The race that had invaded our planet and conquered us. He hated me back. The Caldari who as they saw it started the war that they finished. Those responsible for the attack on Nouvelle Rouvenor. However in order to graduate we had to work together. It was one night at the end of the first year. We had an astrophysics exam the next morning and your father kept getting the answers wrong. The study areas had closed for the night and we were supposed to be lights out. However I'd sneaked into his quarters to continue revising. We had to pass. There was nothing more that I wanted than to be a starpilot. He'd just got the answer about the red spectrum and quasars wrong for the forth time when I lost it. I wanted to be a pilot more than anything and he was going to make me fail. I slapped him across the face and then, as he sat there shocked that I'd struck him, I flew at him. The fight lasted all of 30 seconds. Before I knew it I was no longer trying to beat him, I was kissing him. We just scraped through the exam next morning. After that we became lovers. At the end of first year they took the highest individual performers for a special medical. We had no idea why. I was one of those chosen for this extra test due to my high individual test scores. At the meeting after the medical I received two shocks. Firstly I was capsule compatible and could be entered into the Navy Capsuleer program. The second was I was pregnant. The Navy gave me 48 hours to decide. I couldn't be both and had to choose.

"As I wept in my quarters unable to make that decision, I got a message. No sender details, totally anonymous. It promised me a way out. I could keep the baby and continue to study. Once I had given birth they would make me a capsuleer. I sat there stunned. Was this a test? A trap? I could not end the pregnancy, but being a capsuleer was such an opportunity. In the end I just said yes. They came for me that night. I was whisked away in a covert operation. Within 24 hours I was lightyears away on New Caldari. The State foresaw what a power we capsuleers could become. They wanted me at any price. I was allowed to contact your father several months later. Without me he'd failed his exams and been ejected from the pilot training program. He'd joined the local police. In a series of messages passed on by undercover State agents I asked him if he would take care of you. I was going to be a capsuleer fighting for the State, you were half Gallente on a world that hated Gallente. So after you were born you were taken across the border to your father."

Ylle sat there stunned. "He told me you died when I was one." she muttered.

"I did. I have died many times. In fact in the training program I was in, it was a requirement to pass. My first time I was laying on a gurney in a med-centre as they terminated my birth-body and transferred my consciousness into my first capsuleer clone. He didn't lie."

"But I look Gallente!" she protested.

"I took gene therapy during the later stages of pregnancy. You still have a hint of Caldari but we ensured you would blend in living with your father."

"The car for my 18th. The expensive one that caused me to suspect he was on the take. That was you wasn't it?"

The capsuleer nodded.

"Look its your choice where you want to go. Back to C-Prime, one of the worlds or stations here in low-sec or I can arrange passage to Caldari space. I advise you to go home. We cannot be together but know I do love you and that I am always watching."

"But what about the Police? And the Serps?" Jullynes who had been sat there quietly asked.

"All taken care of. It is safe for you to go home." she said as she left.

-o0o-

Detective Chonettane entered the hotel room and saw his superior standing over what he assumed was the body. A white sheet was draped over it. He went over and lifted the sheet for a look. He jumped back.

"What the..."

"Yeah. This is a weird one!" the senior detective said.

"How longs he been dead?"

"Less than 14 hours."

"14 hours? There is a bleached skeleton under the sheet!"

His superior explained that they had checked the security camera footage from the hotel corridor and he was seen coming back to his room just after midnight station time. The cleaning staff found him the next morning. A datapad was produced and the scene of the hotel corridor played for Chonettane.

"He looks rather happy." he commented.

"Watch."

Chonettane continued to watch Carvaire walking up the corridor. He raised a hand and touched his lips. Even on the camera footage it was clear his hand came away red. As he reached the door he lifted his hand to access the controls and obviously spotted the blood on his hand. He quickly touched his lips again and entered the room in a rush. The senior detective indicated for Chonettane to follow him. They entered the bathroom. Bloody handprints were everywhere. On the counters, in the sink and even the mirrors.

"Shit, this looks like a scene from a bad horror movie! Did he call for help?"

"The control panel by the door is covered in blood. He was desperately trying to call reception or to open the door. For some reason neither worked. His personal datapad shows 104 calls."

"Nobody came?"

"104 failed calls. No connection to the GalNet which is technically impossible."

"Door and comms not working and his datapad fails at the same time? He was murdered then? Method?"

"Did you see the silver dust under the skeleton?"

Chonettane nodded.

"Inactive self-replicating nanites. Techs think they were programed to eat organic flesh."

"So as his lips were the first to go according to the security camera footage, something he ate or drank?"

The senior officer nodded. "Or a kiss. The techs have heard of some Amarrian assassins using lipstick containing these nanites. Bio-coded so they don't attack the host."

"Wow. The kiss of death. Shit! Any ID?"

A wallet was passed to him.

"Double shit! One of us. A cop from C-Prime. Better call his Captain and find out what he was going here."

"Already tried. Apparently his Captain was found three hours ago, also dead. His blood sample had a street value of 5000 creds it had so much narc in there. Enough to kill a Patorian Mammoth. No way it was an accidental OD. Murder as well. They also found a memory core on him that shows him and our bony friend here shooting another detective in the back after the poor SOB refused to take a bribe from them and join the Serps."

Chonettane nodded. "Well good riddance then to those two. The less bent cops the better. I assume then the Serps killed them both?

"I'm not sure. The memory core shows the murder of the other detective and implicates the two deceased, but there was another person on the recording, someone we know, who wouldn't want to be seen. Certainly not with accessory to murder."

Chonettane looked questioningly.

"Reuvo Pinsine!"

"That Serp bitch! You mean we have evidence against her finally? Where is she?"

"Thats the strange thing." the senior detective sighed "All of our informers say the same thing. She's vanished."

-o0o-

Reuvo woke up into darkness. Feeling around she could make out she was in a small cell. Probably only 9m square. It was pitch black so she had no idea where she was. A small window looked out into space, that was her only clue.

On fleeing from the outpost the escape pod had been caught in the blast and she'd been knocked out. She had no idea how she'd got there or even where she was.

Light appeared from the other side of the small room. She moved to the other window. A corridor. The engineering style was Caldari and in the distance she saw someone approaching. As they neared Reuvo felt sick. She watched the capsuleer walk up to the window. They were separated by the glass. Both women stared into each other eyes. The room suddenly illuminated and Reuvo looked around in horror. An airlock. The panels lit up displaying diagnostic information. The capsuleer gave one last look and turned, walking away. Reuvo glanced at the main panel. It read O2 was 20.9% and pressure was 1000 millibars. There was a hiss. O2 jumped to 22% and then 24%. The millibar readout started to drop. 998, 996, 994.

Reuvo moved quickly to the door facing the corridor screaming and banging her fists on the door. The pain in her ears started to grow. The capsuleer just continued to walk.

The #Tweetfleet Meet 2016

Just a reminder that General Stargazer is arranging the annual Wednesday night Fanfest #tweetfleet meet.

Change of venue this year! I know! No Celtic Cross! We'll have herds of nerds wandering around Reykjavik lost! But fear not, here are the details and location copied and pasted from the Eve Meet site!

Hello Ladies and Gents,

Its time for the #Tweetfleetmeet again!

Same day, same time, new venue!

As i mentioned on twitter last year, I'd like to change the venue this time round as we have clearly outgrown the Celtic Cross after people started to get turned away last year.

I've been talking with a few local CCP Devs to narrow down a good single pub for us to be able to converge on and managed to book a new location known as Gaukurinn!

For those familiar with the area - Its next door from The Dubliner pub and just round the corner from Nonni's sandwich bar.

Their website is here:http://gaukurinn.is/

Their facebook page is here:https://www.facebook.com/gaukurinn2014

I've been able to arange some better rates for the drinks that evening (to get happy hour extended later) - Not only that, but the venue will be extending its hours and will be open to 4am!

Its a new venue, so if things dont pan out we can always try somewhere new next year!

If you have any questions you can get me on twitter @blind_hope on the tweetfleet slack @blind_hope or drop me an ingame mail "General Stargazer".

See you there!

-General Stargazer

Its always a good laugh and usually a few Dev's turn up! Some pics I've taken over the years...

World of Eve Online

EVE IS DOOMED!...... again...... apparently.

The burning torches and pitchforks are out again. Whilst skill injectors didn't bring the Evepocolypse, this new feature coming soon (tm) might. Dailies!

For anyone who doesn't know several MMOG's out there feature daily quests. Ones you can only complete once per day. The idea is they give you incentive to log on. CCP has just announced that they are implementing something similar. When you log on (with a 22 hour timing running) the first rat you kill will give you 10,000 skill points. This is per character not per account. So if I wanted to I could log in once a day and make 120,000 skill points across my four accounts.

Some see this as the death of Eve, however, will it really be?

10,000 skill points is about 4 hours training if you are spec'd right with implants. So if you do log on every a day to claim your 10k you'll be getting 28 hours instead of 24. Will I be doing this? No chance.

Drackarn is somewhere around 150,000,000 SP. So killing a rat every 22 hours gives me a 0.00667% increase. I'm currently training Gallente Dreadnought V. That is 3m SP. 10k doesn't even make it worthwhile to log in and claim. However it will help those low skill new bro's who perhaps don't want to shell out a lot of cash (either in game or real life) on skill injectors.

For a 5m SP toon that 10k is 0.2%. Five days of logging on and killing a rat it's a 1% boost. Or its getting a level 1 skill from level 0 to level 2 for one kill. For me that 1% boost to total SP would take 150 days or logging in and killing rats. I'm more interested in my -10 sec status than 10k skill points.

The main thing about this is to get new players logging on. They may start as "I'll just log on and kill a rat to get my 10k and then log off" but might see a mail about a fleet. How many times have you logged on to do something quickly and they are screaming in corp chat for help or that they have a carrier tackled? Just by logging on there is a chance it could lead to something much more. Who knows.

But is this the death of Eve? Stop being silly! It helps new bro's and encourages activity, its not turning Eve Online into WoW, World of Tanks or Hello Kitty Online!

The Delivery Boy - Part 5

Friday Fiction. Escape pod here!

The Delivery Boy - Part 5

Captain Moolis guided the Comet through the heavy traffic around the stargate. After two years in the Federal Navy he was now bored of frigates. He wanted promotion to a cruiser class vessel, a Thorax or a Vexor. He swung his camera drones to the other ships around the gate including the lumbering Dominix class battleships. It would be another 5 years before he'd be eligible to apply to fly one of those. That would also be the time he could leave the Navy. 10 years was the minimum Capsuleer term. As an independent he could fly whatever he wanted. Right now he was training for cruiser class vessels. As a capsuleer there was no lessons, no practicals. The knowledge was slowly being uploaded into his brain. He reviewed the progress. 6 days left and he could apply to move up to the cruiser wing.

An alarm sounded bringing him back to the present as the massive stargate flashed, signaling an incoming ship. The alarm meant that a Caldari Militia pilot had just entered Federation space. Authorisation to engage came through immediately. He increased his speed and widened his orbit around the stargate. The target would decloak any second and the chances are it would run. The Navy was too numerous for a single capsuleer of the independent militias to hold out against for long. They could resist for a while, especially in a 0.5 system like this if they were in a battleship. However eventually they would get worn down. A red icon flashed and Moolis cursed, placing the safeties back on his weapons. The enemy capsuleer was in their pod and rules of engagement strictly forbid him from attacking a capsule. He watched the olive-green capsule slip into warp.

He reported the sighting to command but he knew they couldn't do anything about it. The Yulia convention allowed all capsuleers to dock at all station in hi-sec. Even if they were enemies of the state. On the capsuleer decks it was always neutral territory. A stupid rule when in low-sec they could lock them out if they wanted. He throttled back and resumed his patrol dreaming of piloting a Thorax class cruiser.

-o0o-

Ylle gripped Jullynes hand tightly, almost cutting off circulation. They had arrived at the station in Villore to be greeted by a representative of Cromeaux Inc. He had escorted them straight to the labs and the procedure was underway. The representative had explained it was very similar to the skill extractors used by capsuleers. After all, skills were just a type of memory. They would locate the memory and download it from Ylle's brain and digitise it. Then it would be given to them on a small memory core. If in the future, if she wanted it back, it could be uploaded back to her brain again. She could also chose to show the digital recording of the memory on any holoreel player. The representative also stated that the memory core also came with a small EMP charge holder. If she wanted she could connect the two and press a button on the charge device which would fry the memory core beyond repair, destroying the memory for ever. Everyone who wanted a memory removing and digitising did it for a different reason he had told them, however the choice of what to do with the physical manifestation of that memory was her choice.

"I don't remember it!" she gasped opening her eyes. "I know I saw my father get shot. I know I saw it. But I cannot remember the actual event!"

A nurse silently removed the neural-scanning headset before asking her a few simple questions to ensure there had been no side effects. Within 20 minutes the company representative came into the room with a small wooden box and presented it to Ylle before quietly leaving the room.

"So what now?" Ylle asked looking at the contents of the box.
"We need to gain control over both those bent cops and the Serps. I have an idea. Come on, we need to go clubbing!"

Lieutenant Carvaire bounded down the steps of the boarding ramp of the Federation Navy Comet two at a time. He was now out of his jurisdiction and completely alone. His Captain back on Caldari Prime knew where he was but as far as anyone else knew, he was undercover. It was clear they couldn't trust any of the others. He needed that girl dead before the Serpentis caught up with them.

He patted the polymer gun in his pocket. A very expensive piece that was invisible to any of the stations weapon scanners. He'd not be able to get into a high-value area such as the command bridge or the capsuleer decks, the scanners there were much more sophisticated. However, the basic station security in the public areas would be not detect the high-tech stealth weapon.

He'd been able to trace them to the Villore system after the facial scans back in Luminaire identified them getting on a shuttle. After the initial sweep didn't find them they had to go through the recordings and that took far too long. However in the end they'd found them. He'd followed them here now had a better idea where they were. He looked at his datapad and brought up the message again. The anonymous message had revealed things about the runaways route that only someone who knew where they were could know. This mysterious person was being a great help. However there was a nagging suspicion it could be a trap. May be Reuvo leading him into a trap?

He looked at the address one more time and walked briskly to the station transit system.

-o0o-

"What are you doing?" Ylle yelled to Jullynes over the loud thumping music. He didn't respond, just kept typing away on the neon green terminal. The memory core attached to the device with a wire that glowed under the black lights.

She looked around. The club was huge and dark. All around them were computer terminals which had a variety of people around them. The dancefloors were packed and the strangely dressed podium dancers moved to the sound of the music. She stood out like a sore thumb in her jeans and t-shirt. All around them were tech-heads, cyber-goths and data-punks. A nightclub for the hackers and jackers of the station. She saw one girl wander up to a terminal. She had bright blue hair, spiked in long prongs and held in place by what must have been an entire can of hairspray. Her clothing was black and mostly mesh or netting. However Ylle couldn't see any exposed skin through the numerous layers. Her skin was bright white. Ylle wondered if she'd ever felt the sun on her face. The girl pulled a wire from her bag and connected it to the terminal, she then reached around and plugged the other end into a port at the back of her neck. Ylle watched in fascination as the girls eyes rolled up into the top of her head. She was jacked in now doing god-knows-what.

"Right, we're done!" Jullynes said into her ear making her jump. He disconnected the memory core and slipped it back into its box. Then he packed away his datapad and glanced nervously around. Once he was happy they were not being watched he handed her the wooden box containing the memory cell from Cromeaux Inc.

"What did you do?" she shouted back as he led her by the hand through the crowded dancefloor.

"Got us some insurance!" was his brief reply.

They exiting the club onto a quiet promenade. It was late and most people on the station were asleep.

"What now?" Ylle asked as Jullynes looked both ways down the station street.

There was a buzz and Ylle span around just in time to see Jullynes fall to the floor.

"Jully!"

Before she could take another step she heard another buzz and every nerve in her body felt a it was on fire. Then there was blackness.

The two big men behind them placed their stun batons away and picked them up, carrying them to a waiting vehicle.

-o0o-

Carvaire was sat in the bar as instructed. He looked at the image on the datapad. It was Ylle and Jullynes from a security camera. There was just enough on the picture to show they were on this station but not enough to identify the actual location. It was a teaser, to show him the person sending the messages had eyes on the kids. He'd gone through all the possibilities and finally concluded that it must be a crooked member of the Serpentis. They would offer to give him the information he needed in exchange for a large sum of cash. He'd pay, he would have to. If that girl ever got to tell her story his whole world would collapse. If Reuvo got her, he'd be nothing more than her slave.

He glanced around wondering if the contact was already here. A few couples and groups were sat in the booths either having a quiet drink or celebrating something after work. The singles were mostly men. All of them looked like they were on business he guessed, but still any one of them could be the contact. None of them seemed interested in him. He was a veteran of hundreds of stake-outs, he was sure he'd be able to spot some inexperienced Serp. He took another swig of the beer. Golden Fleet ale was not common in the Federation. Trade restrictions with the Amaar meant it was generally only found in the border regions. However this bar had managed to get some. It wasn't cheap but it made a nice change. A second bottle was placed in front of him. He looked at the barman questioningly. The barman nodded over to a booth. Carvaire turned to see a woman drinking alone. He'd seen her before but had discounted her assuming she was meeting someone special. She was Caldari, extremely attractive and wearing an expensive looking outfit. The heels she wore were bright red and designer. They probably cost more than he made a month from his official police salary. Could she be the contact? Could she be just interested in him? He told himself to be sensible. He was the wrong side of 40 and hardly described as a catch. Why would a hot 20-something woman buy him a drink? She was either working, or was the contact. He slid off his barstool and walked over.

"Take a seat lieutenant." she said as he approached. The contact then.

"You don't look like a Serp to me." he said sliding into the booth.

"May be I'm not. Don't make too many assumptions lieutenant, you might head off in the wrong direction."

"So, what do you want?" he asked.

"Nothing."

"Nothing?"

"Nothing. Lets just say I'm keen to maintain the status quo back on C-Prime. It helps nobody if the Feds come charging in and arrest you and your precinct. The kids are holed up currently, somewhere you cannot get them but they will be moving tomorrow. I will let you know when and where. For tonight you need to go back to your hotel room and wait for my signal.

The Lieutenant eyed her suspiciously. This could be a trap. She could be working for the Serps and trying to stall him. She could even be a Fed from AI getting him to walk straight into a sting operation.

"Why should I trust you?" he asked sitting back.

"You have no reason to and any reason I give you might give could be a lie so I cannot prove anything to you. Neither would I as I'm putting myself in enough danger talking to you. Reuvo does not know you are here, yet. If I wanted you out of the way it would be a simple call. You're deep in their territory now Lieutenant, on the very edge of Empire control. There is no back up, no help here. If they wanted you out of the way they'd simply walk in here, take you and flush you out of the airlock. Nobody would say they saw anything. The cameras would be blank. You think the Serps have influence on C-Prime? Its nothing compared to here on the edge of civilisation."

Carvaire nodded and sipped his beer. She was right, if it was a Serp trap it was too elaborate. She still could be a fed.

"So you want me to go back to my room and expect me to sit there pulling my plonker until you call?"

The woman gave a seductive smile.

"Oh Lieutenant, it won't be so bad." he jumped as he felt a stocking-clad foot stroke his calf under the table. "Tomorrow is only 45 minutes away. They may move early." the foot reached his thigh and slid between his legs. "Plus I'm sure you can entertain yourself for a while." she purred as the foot reached his hardness and massaged him. He dropped a hand and stroked the expensive silk clad leg.

"OK, I'll wait for your call but if I get nothing by noon station time I'm on the hunt again."

The woman nodded and he felt disappointment as the foot retreated.

"I'll call, don't you worry." she said picking up her bag and sliding from the booth. She'd slipped her heel back on discreetly under the table. She approached his side of the table and stooped down. He couldn't help resisting a quick glance down the front of her dress.

"I guess you'll need a few minutes to calm down before you can stand. Until tomorrow then. Enjoy pulling your plonker." she whispered and taking his chin in her hand kissed him. A hot, wet tongue slid into his mouth tasting him before she withdrew.

"Night." she said with a wink and was gone.

Carvaire leaned back in the booth and smiled. His lips tingling.

-o0o-

Reuvo sat behind a wooden desk, a luxury item on station in space. A huge window looked out onto the Gallente nebula.

Ylle and Jullynes were bundled into the office by the two henchmen. She appraised them both, not much more than college kids. This should be easy.

"Welcome to my club." she stated raising from her chair and walking over. She took the wooden box from one of her men and opened it.

"I assume this is what I wanted. Interesting plan to remove the memory." she said inspecting the contents. "Be a lot easier to keep track of this than you two. Vreau, take the girl to the pleasure hub outpost. I think we can start at 200 an hour for her. Fit the boy with a Glave Collar and see if the tech-section can use him. If he gives any trouble flush him out of an airlock!" she said casually turning and walking back to her desk.

"Yeah... that's not going to work out well for you." Jullynes replied. Reuvo stopped and turned.

"Oh and why not?" she asked with a smirk.

"I placed a copy of the recording on the GalNet. I wrote a program to encrypt it so nobody can see it, but it cycles. Unless I stop it once every 72 hours it'll decode and broadcast. Anyone in the cluster will be able to see it! If you let us go I'll give you access when we're clear of Serpentis areas."

The woman in red turned smiled at Jullynes. "Ah, the hero continues to geek it up! I thought something like this would happen. I could threaten you but I think you'd take it for your new girlfriend here?"

Jullynes didn't reply. He simply stood silently. Defiant.

Reuvo turned and nodded to one of her men. He quickly left the room through a side door returning a moment later dragging Awel. Her hands were bandaged heavily and her clothing ripped and torn.

"Mom!" Jullynes cried out.

"We grabbed her from the Police. You can see they hadn't been kind to her. We'll be a lot, lot worse unless...." she was interrupted as another of her men entered the room almost jogging. She scowled at the interruption. He went over and whispered something in her ear. She span around and slapped him across the face. The big man looked stunned.

"Idiot! Does it look like I'm interested that some random wants to see me?" she shrieked.

"But, boss. She knew your name, that we have those three here and just waltzed up to the club through all the security. She said she wanted to see you all together or else."

Reuvo's rage subsided against the man and worry crept in. If a stranger knew they were all together there was a problem.

"Show her in." she said calmly.

The man disappeared and a minute later a woman walked in. Reuvo appraised her. She was beautiful. Probably early 20's. Expensive clothing. Certainly not a cop. Caldari looking with long black hair.

"And you are?" Reuvo asked with a raised eyebrow.

"That's really not important. I am here to tell you in person that you are going to release all three of your prisoners to me. Otherwise I will kill you all." she stated casually.

Reuvo burst into laughter.

"Oh right. Actually I have a better idea. Vreau waste this bitch."

The man pulled out his gun and aimed at the new arrival. The man paused, amazed that the woman in his sights didn't appear in the least bit concerned.

"That would be a massive mistake." she said amazingly calmly. "If he pulls that trigger you are all fracked."

"Oh, so you say. Vreau do it!"

The report of the gun was deafening in the enclosed room. The woman was blown off her feet, a gaping hole in her chest. Her body slammed into the wall and left a red streak as it slid down. Ylle  shrieked.

"Check if she was wearing a wire. She must have been a cop!" Reuvo ordered as she turned her attention back to Jullynes. "As you can see we deal with...."

She was interrupted as Vreau screamed like a hurt cat and jumped back from the body.

"What?" Reuvo snapped now really annoyed. He was pointing at the body, his finger trembling.

"She's.... she's.... she's..."

"WHAT? Wearing a wire? A cop?"

"A capsuleer! I just killed a capsuleer." he stammered.

"You cannot kill capsuleers, eggers are immortal." another of the men said.

"Not outside their pod they are not idiot! The capsule makes them immortal, outside it they can be killed."

The mood in the room was suddenly oppressive.

"Don't be ridiculous. She cannot be a capsuleer!" Reuvo said as she walked over.

She saw where Vreau had pulled open the back of her dress. The sockets up her spine were clear.

"Frack!" she shouted. "Why would a capsuleer walk in here?" She paused to think. Killing a capsuleer was a massive problem. Even with semi-control of this station they'd still be in a world of trouble.

"Why was an egger interested in you?" she barked at Ylle. She only shrugged, still in shock. Reuvo turned to Jullynes who shook his head. They both looked confused and had shown no recollection of the woman when she entered. They appeared as much in the dark as she did.

"Right, prep the ship. We'll fall back to the deadspace outpost. And someone find out who that was! Hide the body and wipe the drives here. Lets go people!"

To be concluded....

A Quick Look at Citadel Release Carriers!

I jumped my Triage alt onto SiSi today to have a look at the new Force Auxiliaries that are on there. I didn't spend a lot of time thinking about fitting but some simple stats with T2 modules included EHP of 1.5m with a capital repper doing about 2k a second in reps. Optimal range with the armour repper is 58k again doing 2k per second ish. The new capital cap injectors are 3,200 per 12 seconds. The new capital mods are interesting. 25000mm plates!

Yeah so that's one of the four new massive new space priests! Not that I'm really bothered with that repping lark. Lets have a look at something that does some proper pew-pew! Let's try this new fighter thingy! OK, buy an Archon..... OK. This is very different! Fighter hanger. Oh those ones don't fit, too fat for the launch tube! OK load the other two launch tubes with these and undock. Whey hey!

First off you load your fighters into the tubes in the new fighter hanger thingy!

Then you realise heavies don't work and say whatever. You then need to launch them and.... how the smeg do I control my fighters???? Google? Ahhhhh this button here I didn't see!

So now I have control, lets get the alt in so I can shoot her in the face. Lock her up and I have a squadron of light fighters and a squadron of support fighters. That button above that removes the icons for your hi/mids/lows and replaces them with the fighter controls here:-

I can now tell my fighters to attack in the same way as pressing F1. And attack they do! After a bit of a flight over of course! That MWD ability sped up the attack fighters a lot leaving the support behind!

PEW! PEW! PEW! You can use the special abilities such as the missiles (limited number and only cycle once per click) or the tackle... whoops, error box. OK so you cannot tackle just yet! However I got to say, my first quick use of the new fighter system was enjoyable!

SCASSSS - The Caracal

Just been for a bit of a roam. Its dead out there. I guess everyone is up north dogpiling on the Goons (Grrrr). Took my Caracal out as not flown it in a while. Always loved the Caracal model. So quiet I could even hide the UI and take some screenies on TQ. Rare that happens!

The Delivery Boy - Part 4

Fiction Friday! Escape pod here!

The Delivery Boy - Part 4

Carvaire looked out of the wide viewscreen on the bridge of the Thorax class cruiser. The burning wreck took up most of the screen.

"Status?" the Captain barked.

"Its an Epithal industrial sir, or what is left of it. Detecting antimatter residue. It was fired upon with railguns. 250mm at a guess." the tactical officer replied.

"Life signs?" the Captain asked as they neared.

"None on the ship Captain. Its totally depressurised. I have a couple of lifepods on scan. Setting the tractorbeam to scoop them."

Carvaire didn't ask the Captain permission to leave the bridge, he just took off towards the cargo hold. They were on cross-jurisdictional. The Navy Police were unlikely to be on the same payroll of the Serpentis he was. If that girl was confronted by one of these do-gooders she'd probably spill the beans.

When he burst into the cargo hold the crew were already helping the survivors out of the large 10-man escape pods. He dashed between the pods checking the survivors but couldn't see any sign of the girl. He listened in as they described how they'd come under Serpentis attack. It was unusual for pirates to be operating in the space-lanes of such a high-security system. Especially in a Caldari-Prime orbit. Hanging about the asteroid belts and deadspace pockets was more their thing in this area. Carvaire knew it was no coincidence. The question now being was she alive or dead? Did the Serpentis have her?

His datapad vibrated in his pocket three times. Two was a normal message, three was an encoded message and therefore important. He pulled it out of his pocket, checked nobody was looking and read the message after confirming his ID with an iris scan. The 'off the books' facility in the industrial district had been attacked. A dozen armed men had stormed the building. Awel had been taken.

"Fracking Serps!" he grumbled under his breath, slipping the datapad back into his pocket. Someone had let them know about the boys mother. That was the problem working with corrupt officers, you couldn't trust anyone.

Things were not going well for Carvaire. Right now the Serpentis were holding all the cards. He started heading for the exit behind a group of crew and survivors.

"Aye, she was a good ship the Grand Vert, we'll not get another like her!" he heard one of them say.

He grabbed the man by the shoulder and span him around.

"What was the name of your ship?" he shouted at the shocked man.

"What?"

"The name of your ship? Wasn't it the Sauternes ?"

"No. It was the Grand Vert."

Carvaire spun away and pulled the datapad from his pocket.

"Control, patch me into orbital command. Urgent."

He waited for a few seconds.

"This is orbital command."

"This is Lieutenant Carvaire. I need the status on two ships. First is Sauternes."

"Checking sir. Sauternes reported lost in sector 4A to pirate activity. Survivors currently being transferred to the station."

"The other is the Grand Vert."

Another pause.

"Grand Vert. Docked in station 3-1 an hour ago. Still there. Hanger bay 23-56."

Carvaire cut the connection and smiled to himself. Someone had been hacking transponders.

-o0o-

The pilot of the shuttle pinged the direction scan again. The Thorax cruiser was still there near the wreck. He typed a new message to his employer and sent it via the fluid router. It would take the light emitted from the sun that was passing his ship right now would take many years to reach the same system the message was heading. However thanks to the FTL message technology the message would be received instantly.

He leaned back in the chair think about what he had done. By spoofing the transponders he had led the pirates to attack an innocent ship. However the one carrying the two persons of interest was also innocent and they'd have been attacked if he hadn't. One of those ships would have been destroyed no matter what he had done. Nodding to himself that he had nothing to feel bad about he programmed the navi-com to warp to the Duvolle labs station and await further orders. He didn't have to wait long. The message arrived as the ship was dropping out of warp.

"A Raven?" he muttered to himself as he read the instructions. He broadcast the AI program he'd been instructed to at the station and set the autopilot once confirmation had been received it had embedded itself in the stations system. Activating the drives, the shuttle swung away from the station and aligned to the distant stargate. In a flash of light the ship jumped to warp and was gone.

-o0o-

Ylle and Jullynes sat in the plush room overlooking the hanger. A small InterBus shuttle was docked with numerous technicians working on it. Preflight checks before the passengers boarded.

"Do you have any idea whats going on?" Ylle asked looking out the window sipping on a glass of Gallente champagne.

"Someone is helping us. I have no idea who or why. The why is the pressing matter. Whether its helping us to escape or leading us into some sort of a trap. Whichever way it is, we've not got much choice but to follow and see what happens."

"Helping us? How? Who?"

Jullynes explained the first time he became suspicious was at the orbital launch facility on the planet. The door was too easy to hack, he'd only got a short way into the system when the door opened. Then when they were picked up by the Sauternes they were going to be thrown in the brig as stowaways before someone threatened them.

"Then there was this." he hand her his datapad.

Ylle looked at the screen. A receipt for two tickets from Luminaire to the star system of Villore.

"Villore? Isn't that right on the border?"

"Yes. Its a 0.5 system that leads into low-sec. Lot of fighting going on in that area. That's why Cromeaux Inc has an office there at the FDU Logistics Support."

"That's where our ticket goes to!" Ylle replied.

"Exactly. So how did our fairy-godfather or mother know that was where we were heading?" he muttered. "I hadn't even told you the specific system but that's the closest with the memory extraction facilities we need."

"Wait, the ticket names! There not us. Wow, its for Abesinon Ahtushin. That actress!"

"I noticed that. Also you do look like her so I think that's the point! It also reduces suspicion about two people our age taking a private chartered shuttle. These Interbus chauffeur services aren't cheap and someone has paid for 1st class. If they think your a famous actress then nobody is going to question it."

"But I do not look like her! She's half Caldari!" Ylle protested.

"So? She might be semi-squid You still look like her! I don't know why you're moaning. She's super hot!" Jullynes laughed.

Ylle raised an eyebrow at that. Jullynes realised what he had said and quickly buried his face back into his datapad. The two sat in silence waiting for the gate to open.

-o0o-

Carvaire entered the security office of the Duvalle Labs Station. A thin Gallente man with hollow cheeks rose from his seat.

"Lieutenant." he said in greeting. "I understand you are after two suspects on our station?"

Carvaire just nodded and handed the man a datapad. He took it and sat down at his terminal. He swiped the data from the pad onto his screen. Green dots appearing on the faces of Ylle and Jullynes as the computer digitised their faces.

"This should take about an hour. Our computers are good but this is one of the busiest stations in the system. Hundreds of thousands of faces to scan!" he stated.

On the screen views from hundreds of security cameras flashed up blue dots and red lines tracing over people's faces as the AI compared them to the the search criteria. The InterBus shuttle executive waiting room flashed up briefly. The empty room vanished as the AI continued its search.

To be continued...
